In a shocking turn of events, noted celebrity Bono has announced completion of a sex change operation and a round of hormone replacement therapies in order to change genders. Bono stated that being under the glare of the media for so long created confusion and stress - and that the surgery was an attempt to reclaim some form of quality of life. "It's hard to deny why you are like you are, when the truth is really only skin deep", said the star.
A spokesperson for the celebrity indicated that they believed the gender change would have zero affect on Bono's career, and that indeed, the public may see a lot more of the aging celeb in the near future. "Bono has always been a symbol of hope for the oppressed of the world, and highlighting this struggle with sexual identity is a natural extension of those beliefs" said the spokesperson.
Bono's female partner of many years has not released any statement or discussed publicly how the gender re-assignement would affect their relationship, but all signs point to the sultry brunette being very happy with the "new Bono" in her life. "I've been with Bono for a very long time, and I don't see that changing because of the gender thing - I love Bono for what is inside - not outside", she was quoted as saying.
Bono has indicated that music would continue to be what drives the celebrity's vision and sense of global contribution, and that perhaps getting a spot on a national TV show like "Dancing with the Stars" could help extend that musical vision and keep the GLBT issues in front of the American public.
